How to Install Popcorn Time on Fire TV Devices
Popcorn Time is a stand-alone application that is available for Android, Windows, iOS, Mac, and Linux operating systems. It has been around for a while but hasn’t been quite compatible with the Amazon Fire TV devices. But we have found that the latest version is a lot more friendly to use on the Fire TV than it used to be. So, this prompted us to create this tutorial so you can enjoy watching streaming video with Popcorn Time.
Popcorn Time is installed as an APK. This means you will have to download the file and install it on your Fire TV or Fire Stick. This is known as side-loading. Side-loading apps on your fire stick used to be tricky, but by using the Downloader App for Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick, you can do this very simply and easily. Odds are, if you have installed other software on your Fire TV device (such as Kodi, Morpheus TV, Mobdro, or Terrarium TV Ad-Free), then you probably already have the Downloader app installed. If you don’t have the Downloader app installed for some reason, you can follow our guide How to Install the Downloader app on Fire TV Devices. Once you have Popcorn Time installed, you can enjoy unlimited movies and TV shows on-demand as well as have the ability to download them for offline use.
Popcorn Time leverages a technology known as P2P File Sharing. This is also known as using Torrents. This is a great capability that gives you access to much more content than you could otherwise obtain using Kodi apps such as Placenta, Neptune Rising, Exodus, Covenant or the like. These programs rely on a fixed set of providers that host the content you want to watch. These sources are usually Web-based. Using torrents to get the content gives you a whole other source that is ever changing and usually has the best quality streams.
But, there are a couple of drawbacks to using torrents to obtain content. First, since this method actually downloads the file as it goes, you have to be sure to have enough disk space to accommodate this.
The second and most important thing to consider when using torrent technology is that, unlike other streaming apps, you will be publicly broadcasting your IP address. This is inherent in the way that torrents work and is not ordinarily a problem. But this means that, since your ISP can see you, they see you watching a movie from a torrent, and they think you are downloading it. You can expect to receive a letter from them warning you against piracy and illegal downloading of copyrighted content. We all know you aren’t, but that will be their perception.
This is why we always recommend using a VPN when using Popcorn Time. We believe that you should ALWAYS use a VPN when streaming ALL video, but we would consider it MANDATORY for using Popcorn Time as well as Morpheus TV since both of these applications use torrent technology. This is serious business, and you should never use torrent technology without first securing your connection. If you don’t, expect trouble from your ISP. The good news is that, with a properly secured connection, you will have an awesome streaming experience using Popcorn Time. The selection of high-quality, on-demand media is virtually limitless using torrents.
