There are a lot of great streaming media applications available for your jailbroken Firestick or other Fire TV devices. Apps like Kodi, Popcorn Time, Terrarium TV, Morpheus TV, etc. are some of the best applications I have found.
Today I want to talk about an application called Stremio. Stremio has a lot in common with the apps I mentioned above, but it also has some unique features and combines some of the functionality of all of these other applications. Stremio is a stand-alone application that has a super-nice interface with a ton of functionality right out of the box.
One of the most interesting features of Stremio is that, like Kodi, it has the ability to work with add-ons. A fresh install of Stremio doesn’t bring you a lot of free movies and TV series. To get those, you will need to install a couple of add-ons, and I will show you how to do that as well. It’s much simpler than installing add-ons in Kodi.
Secure Your Connection
Always remember to use a VPN when using ANY of these streaming applications. Stremio uses BitTorrent technology to deliver content. This technology should never be used without a VPN. While you can enjoy tons of great free movies and TV shows using your jailbroken Firestick, you can also put yourself at risk of prosecution for watching copyrighted content in some cases. It’s just not worth it. I always use and recommend IPVanish VPN service for all my clients. Visit IPVanish.com right now to grab a special deal that exclusively for my KodiAmerica.com readers.
The easiest way to install Stremio on your jailbroken Firestick is to use the KodiAmerica Jailbreak App Vault. The App Vault is a little application I have leveraged to help my KodiAmerica.com readers find the apps I write about without having to chase down links that can be elusive and often-times don’t work. I try to keep on top of the App Vault to make sure the latest versions of the apps you want are always available. Click here for instructions on Installing the Kodi America Jailbreak App Vault.
Stremio is also available in the Apple App store, the Google Play Store if you want to use it on your devices, and is available for MacOS, Windows and Linux desktops directly from the Stremio website http://www.stremio.com/downloads. One of the great features that Stremio has, is that the add-ons, your favorites, your watched movies, etc., are all in sync no matter which device or computer you are using. That eliminates the need for using Trakt.tv or other third-party services to keep track of these things.
Once you have installed the KodiAmerica Jailbreak App Vault, open it up. If you already have not entered my code, the code to enter is: 47356537
Once you have entered the code and clicked CONTINUE, you will be taken to the KodiAmerica Jailbreak App Vault. You will see Stremio on the list. Scroll down until you have highlighted the little download icon beside Stremio and click it.
Stremio will start downloading
When the download has finished, the download icon changes to like a PLAY button. Click it.
You will be asked if you want to install Stremio. Click INSTALL
Stremio will begin installing
Once Stremio is finished installing, you will be asked if you want to open it. Click OPEN
You will see the Stremio splash screen
You will be asked if you want to allow the application to send anonymous error reporting data. It is up to you whether you want to do this. I choose not to just because I can’t be sure what information is being sent.
Then you will be asked to log in or register. I used Facebook to log in, but if you don’t have a Facebook account, you can register any way you like. You must register an account for this app to work. The benefit is that all your add-ons and settings, viewing history, favorites, etc. will sync across every device that you have Stremio installed. If you have already created an account, choose LOG IN at the bottom of the screen.
Go ahead and get logged in with whatever method you choose. I won’t go through all the ways because it is pretty self-explanatory.
Once you are logged in, you will see three little lines at the top left corner of the screen. Use your mouse or remote to click there to bring up the menu. We will need to install some add-ons, so scroll down and click on Add-ons.
You will see a list of the official Stremio add-ons. What we are interested in are the community add-ons. So, let’s switch over to view those. Select where it says Official and click on it. Then select Community from the list that pops up.
Once you have selected Community from that list, you will see a screen with the Community add-ons.
These add-ons use BitTorrent technology, so you will want to get your VPN connected before you start using these add-ons. Click here for a great discount on IPVanish VPN service.
It is very simple to install an add-on. Just scroll down and click install on any of them. Some of the add-ons I recommend you go ahead and install are Juan Carlos 2, PirateBay, RAR and Popcorn. I’ll show you how to do it by installing the Juan Carlos 2 add-on.
Scroll down until you have highlighted the Install button on the Juan Carlos 2 add-on in the list of Community add-ons. Click on Install
You will be asked if you are sure you want to install it. Confirm by clicking Install
You will see that, in the add-ons list, the button for Juan Carlos 2 has changed from Install to Uninstall. That means it is installed. To uninstall the add-on, simply click the Uninstall button. You can install and uninstall add-ons as many times as you like.
Continue to install RAR, PirateBay, and Popcorn. Feel free to install any of the others as well. Once you are finished installing add-ons, click the back button to go to the home screen of Stremio.
Select one of the movies from the home screen that you would like to watch. In this case, I chose The Avengers. Click on it to bring up the details page.
The details page contains all the information about the movie as well as a list of streams available. You can also see which add-on found the stream. You can see that the top one is the Juan Carlos 2 add-on, and PTB means PirateBay. Click on the stream you want to play.
Stremio will start downloading bits of the torrent file until it has enough to start streaming. It uses the actual movie title logo as the progress bar. I think that’s a cool touch. When the logo is fully lit up, the movie will start to play.
That’s about as easy as it gets. Stremio has a nice interface with lots of ways to find the movies and TV shows you want to watch. You can sort the media and search for movies and TV shows. You can add media to your library which is a lot like adding to your favorites in other applications. Overall Stremio takes streaming videos to the next level.
