How to Reset Your Amazon Fire TV Device
If you are like me and need to try out different builds and install different applications on your Fire Stick or Fire TV, you probably need to reset it to factory defaults every time you want to install a clean Kodi build or reinstall Terrarium TV, Mobdro or other software. I always recommend installing Kodi builds on fresh Kodi installations. And, if you received an Amazon Fire TV device from someone else, you can’t be sure if it is clean. It’s a good idea to go ahead and reset that device as well.
In most cases, you can just reset Kodi without having to reinstall everything or doing a factory reset on your device. There are other cases where you need to reset your Fire TV device back to factory defaults. Especially if you have installed an Android app that is causing you issues, or has possibly changed some system settings.
I’m going to show you a couple different ways to get back to a fresh environment so you can have the best experience installing Kodi add-ons or apps.
Always use a VPN when streaming media online
Your IP is: 126.96.36.199 - Secure Your Connection
Stop your ISP and your government from spying on your activity. Use a VPN to protect your privacy. A VPN is an essential tool when you are using any free or low-cost streaming application or service. Especially if you are using a jailbroken Fire TV or Fire Stick or Android box. ALWAYS use a VPN if you want the best streaming experience, the best selection of media and don't want your ISP to slow you down or shut you down. I recommend IPVanish VPN for all my clients and I use it on all my devices.

Resetting Kodi to a Freshly Installed State
If you are trying out different Kodi builds, and want to get to a freshly installed Kodi in between builds, you can do so without uninstalling it. You only need to clear the data for Kodi.
When you install an Android application such as Kodi, there are three different things in play. First, there is the application area. This never changes. The application is installed and that area is read-only. Second, there is the cache area that is created that gives the application the memory it needs to operate. This area is read-write for the application. The application uses this as a temporary area of memory to perform the functions of the application. Sometimes this is called the “scratchpad” area of memory. Lastly, there is the data area that is created. This area is also read-write for the application. This data area contains everything about the application itself. All settings, files, databases, etc. that are needed by the application are stored in the data area. If you “format” this data area, essentially you are returning the application back to its original, freshly installed state. Let me show you how to do this.
I will use Kodi for this tutorial, but you can do this to any Android application you have installed. First, you will want to go into the Settings of your Fire TV device.
Then scroll over to Applications
Once you click on Applications, you will see the Applications Menu
Scroll down and choose Manage Installed Applications
When you click on Manage Installed Applications, you will see a list of all the installed applications on your Fire TV device.
Scroll down and select Kodi
Click on Kodi and you will see all the things you can do with this application.
For this tutorial, we are going to clear the data partition. So, choose Clear data
Once you have clicked on Clear data, you will be asked to confirm that you want to clear the data partition. The message shows that if you click Clear data at this point, that all application data will be deleted permanently. So, be sure you want to do this before you click.
When you open Kodi again after clearing the data partition, you will see that it opens like you had just installed it.
That is how you clear the data partition for an android application on your Amazon Fire TV device.
Performing a Factory Data Reset
What happens if the program is broken or is not allowing your Fire TV device to operate properly? In this case, you might need to reset the Fire TV device to its factory defaults. This is normally never needed, but there are times when things just get so out of whack that you can’t recover easily. This procedure will reset your Amazon Fire TV device back to the state it was in when you first pulled it out of the box. You will also want to perform this procedure if you sell your device and want it to be in a factory default state.
First, go into Settings.
Then scroll over until you see Device
Select Device and you will see the following screen. Everyone is already familiar with this menu. This is also where we come to set up our Fire TV device for the jailbreaking process. See this tutorial: How to Jailbreak Amazon Fire Stick and Fire TV Stick 2018
Continuing with this tutorial will reset your Fire TV device back to its factory default state. Do not proceed unless you are sure this is what you want to do. OK. I warned you. Let’s move on.
Scroll down and select Reset to Factory Defaults
This next screen will try to save you if you accidentally arrived at this point. But, if you are intentionally doing this, select Reset and off you go.
I didn’t do the actual reset on my test device. I need it to write the next article. But if you select Reset, your device will reboot and when it comes back up it will act as it had never been installed before. You will have to re-register it with Amazon and reinstall all the apps you want.
Being able to reset apps or reset your device makes trying out new things easier. Those of you who want to install different builds like No Limits Build or any of the other great builds for Kodi can do so at will. I recommend some great builds in my article Top WORKING Kodi Builds July 2018. This tutorial will also help you out if your Fire TV device is freezing up or not acting right. In these cases, you can use either of the above methods to get everything back to a known-good state so you can install the add-on or application fresh and avoid conflicts with other installed software that might not be behaving nicely.
USE A VPN
In any case, be sure to use a VPN whenever you are using the Internet. This is especially important when using streaming media applications such as Kodi or Terrarium TV. And it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL if you are using Morpheus TV or Popcorn Time which use BitTorrent technology that is most likely not legal in your country.
