Sometimes Kodi gets messed up. That’s just a fact. There are so many add-ons available for Kodi that it’s almost inevitable that you will get some that don’t play well with the others. This can cause freezing or buffering issues in Kodi and there is almost no way to recover from it.
Due to the nature of Kodi and the Kodi Add-On structure, we also need to periodically reset Kodi so that we can be sure we are getting the best performance out of it. As with a misbehaving Kodi installation as I described in the first paragraph, add-ons accumulate garbage and some versions get out of date and the repository has disappeared. This is just a fact of life for those of us that use Kodi to stream our media.
Using a VPN is crucial to ensure that your streaming device is performing at it’s best. Your ISP will slow down your connection if you are streaming media using any of the most popular apps including Kodi. Eliminate this problem by using a high-quality VPN. IPVanish is the #1 VPN on the planet and they are offering an incredible 57% discount on the fastest VPN in the world.
The best way to fix a misbehaving Fire TV Device is to perform a factory reset. This will totally delete all the information from the device and you will have to set it back up just like a new Fire TV. This will almost always solve any problems you are having with your device, but you will have to install all your apps all over again, including Kodi.
Luckily, there is a quick and easy way to just reset Kodi while leaving all your other apps untouched and your Fire TV device will not lose its configuration. This is the preferred action to take if you are only having problems inside Kodi. And, this method works for any application that is installed on your Fire TV device. If an app is acting up or freezing up on you, you can reset it back just like it was freshly installed without having to reinstall it. Here’s how.
NOTE: This will reset Kodi to its freshly installed state. All your add-ons will be removed. You will need to reinstall your add-ons and your skin or install a Kodi build such as No Limits Magic Build to get Kodi’s functionality back. Take note of everything you have installed before performing this action.
Exit Kodi and go to the Home Screen of your Fire TV device. Then scroll over to the right until you are on the SETTINGS page, then select Applications.
Scroll down and click on Manage Installed Applications.
You will see a list of all the installed applications on your Fire TV device. Scroll down and click on Kodi. Or any other app that you want to reset.
Scroll down and click Clear Cache. You don’t really need to do this step, but I do.
Then scroll up one item and select Clear Data.
You will be asked to confirm that you want to clear the data. Click Clear Data again.
IF YOU SELECT “CLEAR DATA” ON THIS SCREEN YOU WILL WIPE YOUR KODI INSTALLATION COMPLETELY.
Now you can scroll back up to the top of the menu and select Launch application to launch Kodi again.
You will be presented with the Kodi first-start screen. Your Kodi installation is now back to a freshly-installed state.
You will need to install your add-ons again. Or for a faster method of getting all the functionality back to Kodi, you can install my favorite build No Limits Magic Build. No Limits Magic Build has all the apps pre-installed for you so you can get back up and running quickly and easily.
