How to Jailbreak and Side-Load Apps on Amazon Fire TV Devices Using adbLink

There are a few tools you can use to jailbreak your Amazon Fire TV devices.  Any of you that have a little experience side-loading apps onto your Fire TV device will most likely be familiar with the Downloader App for Amazon Fire TV.  This is an awesome method to get an app installed without having to use a computer.  This is a good method for installing the occasional app, but to me it can be cumbersome to do an entire Ultimate Fire Stick Streaming Setup using this method.

I have also written about an app called Apps2Fire.  This is an Android App that allows you to push apps to your Fire TV device from your phone or tablet.  This is my go-to method when I am working in the field and need to do an installation.  I don’t have to lug my laptop around with me.  With Apps2Fire, you can install any app to your Fire TV that is installed on your Android device.  You can also directly install a downloaded apk file using this app.

But for those of you that do a lot of installing and wiping of your Fire TV device, and want a method that does a little more heavy lifting, then adbLink is the way to go.

If you are the kind of person that is into Fire TV device jailbreaking, you should be using a VPN.  I can’t stress this enough.  I truly believe that if you connect to the Internet for ANY reason, you MUST use a VPN.  There are a lot of technical reasons for this as well as privacy reasons.  I always recommend IPVanish VPN Service.  And, right now, the folks over at IPVanish have allowed me to extend an incredible 57% discount to my KodiAmerica.com readers

adbLink is an application for your PC or Mac computer.  It is available for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.  You can download adbLink directly from the developer’s site https://www.jocala.com.  Follow the instructions on the site to download and install adbLink on your machine.

Once you get it installed and open it up, you will see that there are a lot of different one-click actions as well as a lot of menu items at the top with tons of tools to perform various functions on your Fire TV device.

Before you can start using adbLink, you will need to get it connected to your Fire TV.  To do this, you will need to change a couple settings on the Fire TV itself.  First, you will want to go to the Settings menu of your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.

Scroll over to the right and click Device

In this menu, you will want to do two things.  First, go to Developer Options and click on it.

There are two menu entries here.  You will want to click each of them and turn them both ON.  First, click on ADB debugging and turn it on.

Then click on Apps from Unknown Sources and turn it on.  You will be asked to confirm that you want to do this.  Click Turn On.

OK.  Now everything is set.  Now you will need to find the address of your Fire TV device on your network.  To do this, go back a couple screens until you get back to the Device menu.  This time, choose About.

Under this menu section, you can see all sorts of info about your device.  In this case we want to find out a couple things about the network.  Scroll down to Network and take note of the SSID and the IP Address from the right side.  We can see here that the Fire TV is connected to the WiFi network called “MERINO” and has an IP Address of 192.168.1.11.

The reason to make note of the SSID is to be sure the Fire TV device is connected to the same WiFi network as the computer you will be using adbLink on.  Be sure to verify that is the case.  If not, you will not be able to connect.

As for the IP Address, let’s go back to the adbLink application main screen.

We will need to enter the information for your Fire TV device.  Click on New

Give the connection a name and put in the IP Address you took note of in the earlier steps.  Here I called it kodiamerica. Once you are finished entering that information click Save

You will be taken back to the main menu.  In the drop-down under Select device, make sure that the device you just added is selected. Then click Connect.

Most of the time you will see this message.  Just do what it says.  Click OK and then click the Refresh ADB button on the main screen.

After clicking on Refresh ADB, you will see that you are connected with an IP connection.  Now you can start working on your device.

There are many things you can do here.  I’m going to install an apk file I downloaded from the Web.  Click on Install APK.  A window will pop up and ask you which file you want to install.  Just browse to wherever you have downloaded your apk files.  In this case I’m going to install Wonderbox.

Clicking on open takes you back to the main screen.  Now you can see that there is a running job called “kodiamerica Install APK” and you can see a progress bar in the bottom right corner of the screen.  The progress bar doesn’t mean much except that it is working.  It may reach 100 percent and then start over.  But just be patient and the apk will install.  It can take some time.

Once the apk is installed, you will see a notification in adbLink that it was installed.

You will also see the app appear in the Apps section of your Fire TV device.

Conclusion

With adbLink you can control multiple devices and save their settings.  this can be a huge help to those of you like me that have multiple Fire TV devices to manage. you can easily install and uninstall Android apk files as well as many other functions.  You can install download and install Kodi from the menu, backup and restore your Kodi configuration, and tons of other things.  Play around with it.  I am sure that you will have a great experience with this application.

Remember to secure your connection with a VPN when you are connected to the Internet.  It’s not expensive at all.  It may very well be one of the best security investments you can make.  But I have you covered with a huge 57% discount on IPVanish VPN Service.  This is a limited time offer, so act now.
