Stremio is undoubtedly one of the hottest streaming apps for Amazon Fire TV devices. Practically EVERY movie and TV show is available, and most of the content is available in Spanish as well. But, what many people don’t realize is that they can also install Stremio on a phone or tablet for a completely portable streaming solution.
There are also other advantages to using Stremio on your portable device. One of my favorite features is the ability to download content so that you can watch it when you are without an Internet connection. I always download a bunch of episodes of my favorite series when I’m going on a flight or camping or anywhere there is no Internet but I might still want to watch TV.
In this article, I’m going to show you how to install Stremio on your portable Android device and set it up to stream and download media. You can use the KodiAmerica.com Jailbreak App Vault if you have that installed, but for this tutorial, I will just use the Google Play Store. Doesn’t get much easier than that. If you want to install the App Vault on your device, then follow my tutorial How to Install the KodiAmerica.com Jailbreak App Vault on Android.
As always, get your VPN up and running and connected before installing and using Stremio. Stremio uses BitTorrent technology that is inherently “leaky” with your IP Address. If you don’t have a VPN, IPVanish is offering a 57% discount on its award-winning VPN service.
How to Install Stremio on Android
First, I’ll connect my VPN. I’m using a tablet for this tutorial, so I’ll open the IPVanish app and click CONNECT.
Once I’ve confirmed that I am connected, I’ll continue with the installation.
Open up the Google Play Store on your Android device and search for Stremio. Once you find it, click on the INSTALL button.
Stremio will start installing.
Once it has finished installing, click OPEN.
The first thing you will need to do is to allow or not allow anonymous error reporting. I recommend clicking on Not now.
You will then be asked to register. If you have already registered Stremio on your Fire TV device or another Android device, you should use the same login information so Stremio can synchronize your favorites and watched history. If you haven’t registered before, you can register using Facebook, your real email address or you can put in a fake one.
For this tutorial, I am using a fake address. LOL
Click Sign up and you will have to check a couple of boxes. Then click Continue.
You will be taken to the Stremio home screen.
Click on the little “hamburger menu” at the top left corner of the screen to bring up the menu.
Scroll down and click on Add-ons. By default, you will see the Official Add-ons.
I recommend uninstalling the YouTube Add-on. It just clutters up things. Scroll down and click on the Uninstall button below the YouTube Add-on and the button will change to a green Install button.
Next, click at the top right where it says Official and you will see a screen with more options.
Click on Community and you will see the list of “unofficial” add-ons. For this tutorial, I will install the IBERIAN add-on. Click on the Install button below the add-on.
You will be asked if you are sure you want to install it. Click INSTALL.
The green INSTALL button will turn into a grey UNINSTALL button when an add-on has been successfully installed. Repeat the process for the following add-ons:
- All of the Juan Carlos Add-ons
- PirateBay Add-on
- Popcorn and all the Popcorn Time Add-ons
With these add-ons installed, you will see tons of great sources for the media you want. I want to show you how the downloader function works.
NOTE: In order to download media, you must also have a BitTorrent client installed on your device. I use uTorrent. You can choose whatever app you want and install it from the Google Play Store before downloading media.
Go back to the Stremio home screen and select a movie or TV series. Not all media will have downloadable links, but most of them will. For this example, I will click on Alita Battle Angel
You will see that there are lots of sources along the right side of the screen. Scroll down until you see the ones that say Download. Click on the one you want to download.
The Stremio Downloader will open in your browser. Click on the Download button to start downloading the media.
If you have your BitTorrent client properly installed, The Stremio Downloader will kick it off and start the download of the media. Here, uTorrent pops open with the file downloading.
Repeat the process with any other media you want to download. Now, when you are on the go, you can watch any of the media you have downloaded even without an Internet connection.
