How to Enable Subtitles in Exodus

There are a lot of reasons to use subtitles when you are streaming media using Kodi.  You might just want to watch a movie with the sound muted.  You might be hearing impaired, or you might not speak the language that the movie is in.  Whatever your reason, it’s very easy to enable subtitles in Exodus.

Your IP is: Your Connection

Stop your ISP and your government from spying on your activity.  Use a VPN to protect your privacy.  A VPN is an essential tool when you are using any free or low-cost streaming application or service.  Especially if you are using a jailbroken Fire TV or Fire Stick or Android box.  ALWAYS use a VPN if you want the best streaming experience, the best selection of media and don't want your ISP to slow you down or shut you down.  I recommend IPVanish VPN for all my clients and I use it on all my devices.

This tutorial is not specific to Exodus.  All Exodus forks generally have the same menus, so this how-to can be applied to Covenant, Specto, Gurzil, Elysium, Placenta, No Name and more.  For this guide, we will be using Placenta.  And we have installed No Limits Build which comes with lots of repositories pre-installed, but oddly enough does not have any subtitle add-ons installed. If you don’t have Exodus or an Exodus fork, then follow one of our tutorials in our article Top Kodi Builds for 2018.  There you will find builds that contain Exodus as well as other forks of Exodus.

There are two steps to getting subtitles to work.  The first thing we need to do is to get a subtitle add-on installed.  There are bunches of different subtitle add-ons to choose from, but for this example, we will be installing OpenSubtitles by OpenSubtitles.

Installing OpenSubtitles by OpenSubtitles

  1. At the top of the Kodi main screen, choose Install from Repository
  2. Choose All Repositories
  3. Choose Subtitles
  4. Select by OpenSubtititles
  5. Click Install
  6. Wait until you see the little banner at the top right telling you that it has installed successfully.

Now on to the second part.  Now we will enable the subtitles and select the language.  We are using Placenta for this example, but the menus are almost identical in all Exodus forks.

Enabling Subtitles in Placenta

  1. Open Placenta and on the main menu, select Tools
  2. On the left menu, click on Subtitles
  3. Turn on Enable Subtitles and Convert subtitles to UTF-8
  4. Then select which language you want to be the primary subtitle language and your secondary subtitle language.
  5. Cllick OK to save the settings and you are done!
  6. Now go into Placenta and play a movie.  Subtitles in your Primary Language should come up automatically.  To select subtitles in your Secondary Language, just go to the menu at the bottom of the screen while the video is playing and select the Subtitles icon at the bottom left.  The search will show results from your secondary language.  It’s a little confusing, but you’ll get the hang of it.

Now that you know how to Enable Subtitles in Exodus.  Be sure to secure your connection with a VPN to keep your ISP from slowing you down, spying on you or blocking you.  For more information, be sure to check out our article What is a VPN? Why do I need it?
